We get asked this question a lot and my answer is always is it depends how important a part will Music/Dancing be at your Wedding? If it’s not a focal point then you can wait up until a month or so before you’re wedding and get a New DJ (just starting out) or a part time (moonlighting) dj and chances are they will still be available. But, just like it is in the major leagues, of any sport, the Best Players go first(or highest) and the less talented and experienced are taken in the distant rounds. The same is true for DJ’s. The Best Wedding DJ’s typically book up the quickest. How can you spot the best?
1.They’ve come highly recommended from people/venues you respect.
2. They have, year after year, solid reviews on multiple reputable Wedding Websites (Weddingwire, The Knot etc).
3. They consistently get back to you immediately.
4. Their website is updated regularly with blogs with photos, letters etc.
In short, for the top Professional DJ’s i would say to reserve them at least 1 year from your wedding date if not more. This way you will have peace of mind that your Wedding will be in Great Hands with a DJ who has DJ’d many weddings over a number of years.
